Our work

The Pyramid, Harrogate

A simple (and very old!) shape but a very high-tech implementation. P+HS provided the masterplan for the redevelopment of Hornbeam Park in Harrogate as a prime business park, developed from the former ICI works. We then worked closely with the client to design and develop the Pyramid, a lettable office development which forms the signature building at the heart of the new park.

The four storey building has an underground secure car park and is fully air conditioned. The skin of the building is fully glazed and considerable research went into the design of both the glass and the glazing system to ensure maximum thermal efficiency and minimal heat gain. The unusual structure was developed by engineers Hill Cannon in conjunction with wind tunnel and stress testing facilities at the British Research establishment.

Also illustrated is part of the remaining buildings on the site, developed as part of the overall masterplan.
