St John's Gate, Middlesbrough
Home Housing and Persimmon Homes appointed P+HS Architects to masterplan the regeneration of the Rivers Estate in an open competition, run by Middlesbrough Borough Council following the demolition of the original back to back housing.
P+HS’s winning scheme provided 111 new homes for sale, rent or shared equity, focused around a new town park, and sites for offices and workspaces. The art installations developed by Allan Francis of 101%Art as an integral part of the detailed design have become a local landmark.
The key to the re-development of the area was the need to secure multi agency public and private sector funding, with P+HS responsible for developing the necessary business cases as part of their masterplanning brief .
The scheme won a Commendation in the Civic Trust Awards 2001.
