Our work
Seafield Mews
Seen from a distance across the dunes, the profile of this small group of 10 family homes is reminiscent of a line of beach huts, reflecting the location directly overlooking the sea. At closer quarters, the references to traditional sea side architecture are maintained by the coloured boarding which gives the houses something of the character of a traditional New England clapboard home.
This scheme makes best use of a long site previously occupied by a petrol filling station. By adopting narrow frontage plans, each house looks directly onto the dunes, whilst the first floor living rooms and top floor master bedrooms have far reaching views over the beach and sea beyond.
At the rear, the first floor rooms enjoy a west facing terrace above the kitchen/family room with a spiral stair down to the garden. This was one of the inventive features that led to the scheme selling out before any of the houses had been completed and it being selected as ‘Best Family Home’ in the 2007 Newcastle Journal Awards.
