Richardson Hospital, Barnard Castle

The new £10 million Richardson Community Hospital, commissioned by County Durham PCT, has opened its doors to patients. The hospital replaces the previous building on the adjacent site, and provides a range of in-patient services with 48 beds, together with outpatients, rehabilitation, therapy, day-care and palliative care services.

The hospital was procured as part of the Government’s LIFT programme which was set up to enable investment in new and improved facilities in primary care and community health care.

The redevelopment of the hospital was constructed by Carillion and funded through Care Partnerships 25 Ltd, a joint venture company owned by both the public and private sector.
