Our work
Enterprise Centre, Middlesbrough
In January 2004 Middlesbrough Borough Council commissioned DTZ Pieda to complete a study into the feasibility of establishing an Enterprise Centre at Riverside Park in Middlesbrough. The Enterprise Centre is intended to contribute to a number of goals:- Stimulation of the formation of new businesses
- Growth of Indigenous businesses
- Attraction of mobile investment from SME’s from outside Tees Valley
- The creation of additional sustainable jobs
- The development of a brownfield site at Riverside currently owned by the Council
The site, of approximately 2.5 hectares [6 acres], is located at the northern tip of Riverside Park and is bounded by the River Tees to the North with primary access routes from the South. The Tees Valley Wildlife Trust has land to the West while Teessaurus Park, a children’s park with a dinosaur theme built on the site of a reclaimed industrial waste dump is located to the East. The Tees Valley cycle route and footpath follows the river along the northern boundary of the site provides strategic pedestrian and cycle links. A masterplan has been proposed for the whole of the Riverside Park development suggesting the reinforcement of the entrance route to the South of the site making it a tree lined boulevard. A bridge link from the North of the site is also suggested and the riverside pedestrian and cycle routes would become more prominent to create a ‘green’ riverside fringe.
Our feasibility study outlined four possible site strategies, providing some 8,750 sq metres [90,000sqft] of lettable space for Enterprise Units.
