Design workshops, Anywhere you choose

The involvement of users and stakeholders in the process of design and scheme definition is vital to a scheme’s success. Their engagement right from the outset of a project results in a clear brief from which to judge the design outcomes and to ensure that all aspects of the users’ wishes are captured and agreed. Often stakeholders are not used to judging the quality of design, or appreciating the opportunities or constraints, and a better understanding of the process enables a positive and creative dialogue to take place across the whole team.

P+HS runs design awareness workshops with a whole range of users and stakeholders, particularly in primary care and mental health facilities. From small groups, perhaps a GP practice, through to large events with 60 or 70 people, our design workshops demystify the design process and enable all staff, service users, carers, visitors and designers to work together to a better understanding of how design works, what to expect from your designers, and how to judge whether they have listened and understood the problems to be solved. These “hands-on” sessions can last from a couple of hours to a whole day event, planned to give maximum involvement and enjoyment.

At the end, stakeholders are better informed to capture a good brief, understand what the outcomes will be and how to judge their success. P+HS has run these for mental health, community hospital, GP practice and wider community involvement for a number of Trusts.
