Barnsley LIFT
LIFT is the new NHS form of funding and development for groups of primary care premises. The private and public sectors come together to form a new company to build and own primary and social care premises within a particular PCT [NHS Primary Care Trust], or group of PCTs. Like PFI, a small number of bidders from the private sector compete to join with the PCT for a 25 year contract.
P+HS worked with Community Solutions for Primary Care to win the Barnsley LIFT contract and the first building, worth around £4m, was completed in October 2004. The next buildings are now following on, with innovative schemes at Hoyland [which includes residential accommodation for sale on the top of the building] and Athersley.
P+HS has also been successful on Doncaster LIFT (again with CSPC) and at Tees Valley with developer Accent, making P+HS one of the most successful architects in LIFT.
