Carlisle LD unit opens ahead of schedule
23 Nov 2006
The first phase of the Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust facility at Carleton Clinic in Carlisle was officially opened today. Built under the NHS ProCure 21 framework with Kier, the scheme sets the standard for the remainder of the schemes to deliver the Trust’s new model of care across the whole of the North West. The scheme totals around £18m, with refurbishment of the remainder of Carleton Clinic, and a new unit in the West of the Trust’s area.
The style of the new unit, whilst being very safe for it’s occupants, is more like a smart apartment or hotel in feel, with all the safety features needed in mental health facilities carefully integrated and unobtrusive.
The scheme pioneered team working within the Trust, where all stakeholders – staff, visitors, service users and carers – all involved throughout the process in a series of design workshops facilitated by P+HS.
